Environmental Protection

We have been consistently minimising our environmental footprint and waste disposal through sound management of natural resources including water, energy, materials, and biodiversity.

Energy & Emissions

Aamal shows leadership in the worldwide efforts to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change, by reducing our carbon emissions. As Aamal operates in an energy intensive sector, therefore, we concentrate our efforts to reduce energy consumption and implement initiatives that positively impact the environment.

Aamal’s head office is currently in the process of replacing all office lights with LED lights to contribute towards energy reduction.
In 2022, our energy consumption amounted to 32,198,630 kWh. This was primarily from electricity consumption as we do not currently use any renewable energy sources. However, our overall Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions reduced to 13,210 tons of CO2eq.

Last year, Ebn Sina Medical implemented a Global Positioning System (GPS) to track its delivery vehicle routes. The goal of this initiative is to decrease vehicle trips and thus reduce fuel consumption, to promote more environmentally friendly operations.

The innovative lead-free product created by our R&D team was successfully registered under the trade name “ENVIGUARD 65” by Doha Cables at the Qatar Ministry of Commerce & Industry, confirming Doha Cable’s dedication to the nation’s social and sustainable development. This particular cable, which replaces the harmful and toxic lead-sheathed cable used in the oil and gas industry, has also received third-party validation from Bureau Veritas. The “ENVIGUARD 65” cables are far more affordable than standard lead-sheathed cables as well as being more environmentally friendly.

Ebn Sina Medical has re-designed the cold supply chain for using passive packaging for the cold chain products for private market customers, which does not utilize any electricity or power to operate. Furthermore, Ebn Sina Medical utilises energy-saving lighting across all its facilities to reduce energy consumption and limit its carbon footprint.

Water & Waste

Aamal is committed to reducing water consumption and promoting responsible water usage across our operations. In 2023, our total water consumption amounted to 336,537m3, with 5,836m3 wastewater recycled.

Looking ahead, Aamal remains dedicated to further improving water consumption and recycling metrics as part of our ongoing commitment to sustainable practices. Despite the overall increase in water consumption in 2023 compared to 2022, Aamal Cement Industries successfully mitigated this trend by installing a water recycling plant on-site. This installation underscores the company’s proactive efforts to optimising water resource usage and reducing water consumption in its operations.

City Center Doha is also preparing to implement a water recycling program to collect condensate drain water from air-conditioning equipment to non-potable water.

These initiatives serve as a testament to Aamal Groups’ active engagement in endeavours aimed at minimising the Group’s environmental footprint and protecting it for future generations.
